8 ways to make moving with your kids an experience to remember.

A move is perhaps harder on no one more than on kids. For many children leaving a familiar neighborhood and saying goodbye to friends can be a tough experience. However, it’s important to let them know that moving can lead to them discovering something new and unexpected, and can present opportunities for family bonding that can sometimes be lost in the large-scale endeavor of a move. Here are eight ways to do just that:

1. Make the journey an adventure, chart out fun and interesting places to see along the way
2. Relive old memories by finding keepsakes and memorabilia during the packing process that they may not have seen in a long time or may have forgotten
3. Take photos of the old place, so that they will have something to remember and cherish, and won’t feel like they’ve completely lost where they came from
4. Build anticipation for the new place and new memories, let them know what good things await them at their destination
5. Include them in the planning and packing process, share the experience of moving so that they know everyone is part of the coming journey
6. Share a last hurrah at familiar locations, build some final lasting memories of where they came from
7. Explore the new location together when you arrive and start building new memories
8. Make them part of the decorating process of the new location, let them know it’s just as much their new home as it is yours
